Steve Shimko joined the ÃÛÌÒTV in 2024 as an offensive quality control coach, but with new head coach Brian Schottenheimer leading the way in 2025, Shimko was promoted to quarterbacks coach.
Shimko worked with Schottenheimer at several other stops in his career, including with the Seattle Seahawks from 2018-19 and at Georgia in 2015.
In Shimko's first season with Dallas, he helped develop the weekly offensive game plan and worked with the wide receivers. With Shimko in the room, four-time Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb ranked near the top of every main receiving category, despite playing with a backup quarterback and battling through a shoulder injury for his final seven games of the season. Lamb tied for seventh in the NFL in receptions (101) and became just the third player in NFL history with 100-plus catches in three of his first five NFL seasons, joining Michael Thomas and Brandon Marshall. Third-year wide recevier Jalen Tolbert also had a breakout season, reeling in a team-high seven touchdown receptions.
Shimko, a former college quarterback at Rutgers, spent four years at Boston College prior to joining Dallas. As Boston College's offensive coordinator in 2023, Shimko led the nation's 13th-ranked rushing offense (199.5 rushing yards-per-game). Running back Thomas Castellanos finished with 1,289 rushing yards, good for 18th in the country. Under Shimko, Boston College averaged 24.8 points-per-game, its highest scoring average since 2019.
Before taking over play calling duties, Shimko coached quarterbacks in 2022 and tight ends from 2020-21.
In Shimko's first season with Boston College, he developed Hunter Long into a second-team All-American as he led all tight ends nationally in receptions (57) and ranked second in receiving yards (685). Long became the highest drafted Boston College tight end in school history after the Miami Dolphins selected him in the third round (81st overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Prior to Boston College, Shimko spent two seasons (2018-19) as the assistant quarterbacks coach with the Seattle Seahawks, where he worked under Schottenheimer, who was Seattle's offensive coordinator. In 2019 Shimko assisted Russell Wilson to a second-team All-Pro selection while Wilson threw for 4,110 yards and 31 touchdowns with just five interceptions.
Shimko joined Seattle after two seasons (2016-17) as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Garden City (Kan.) Community College, where he helped the team win the NJACC National Championship in his first season as offensive coordinator.
Shimko started his coaching career in the collegiate ranks, spending one season each at Georgia (2015), Western Michigan (2014) and his alma mater, Rutgers (2013).
Shimko played quarterback at Rutgers before a shoulder injury cut his career short. Under NCAA rules, he became a student assistant under head coach Greg Schiano.
Shimko and his wife, Jacque, have two sons, Dru and Charlie.
