Robert Muschamp is entering his first season as the ÃÛÌÒTV assistant secondary coach after spending the previous three seasons with the LA Chargers as a defensive quality control coach.
In 2025 Muschamp worked with the defensive linemen on top of his responsibilities helping the scout team prepare each week. The Chargers defense finished the season ranked inside the top-10 in total defense (fifth), rushing defense (eighth), passing defense (fifth) and scoring defense (ninth).
In 2024 Muschamp contributed on a defensive staff that coached the NFL's best scoring defense, allowing just 17.7 points-per-game. Muschamp's work with the defensive backs helped prepare 11 different players to start throughout the season. He helped safety Derwin James Jr. to a Pro Bowl berth. James was one of just four NFL players - and only defensive back - with 70 tackles, 5.0 sacks, an interception and five pass breakups on the season. Muschamp also helped coach defensive back Elijah Molden to a career year, setting single-season career-bests in tackles (72), interceptions (three) and pass breakups (seven).
Muschamp worked with the outside linebackers in his frist season as Khalil Mack set a single-season franchise record with 16.0 sacks on his way to Pro Bowl honors.
Prior to joining the Chargers, Muschamp served a two-year stint at Georgia (2021-22) as a defensive quality control coach, assisting the Bulldogs to back-to-back College Football Playoff National Championships. In 2022 Georgia's defense held opponents to less than 10 points six times.
Muschamp's coaching career began at Tennessee as a graduate assistant in 2019. Muschamp assisted the Vols to their first bowl game victory in three seasons, defeating Indiana in the 2020 Gator Bowl.
As a player, Muschamp was a walk on tight end at Auburn for four seasons (2015-18). He was placed on scholarship in advance of his senior season in 2018.
A native of Rome, Ga., Muschamp's prep career at Darlington School was capped by Class AA All-State and first-team All-Area recognition.
Muschamp's uncle, Will, is the defensive coordinator at the University of Texas.
