Mutunga joined the Cowboys in 2025 as a Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellow, working closely with Derrick Foster and the running backs room.
Prior to Dallas, Mutunga was an offensive quality control coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2024. He worked with the running backs and tight ends and helped with the development of Brenton Strange, Evan Engram and Travis Etienne.
Mutunga also served as an offensive assistant for the Carolina Panthers in 2023, where he primarily helped with the running backs. While with the Panthers, Chuba Hubbard totaled 1,135 scrimmage yards, his first career season with at least 1,000 yards from scrimmage.
Before Carolina, he broke into the NFL coaching ranks as an offensive assistant with the Indianapolis Colts in 2022 through the inaugural Tony Dungy Diversity Coaching Fellowship, working with a running backs room that included three-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Taylor.
Prior to the NFL, Mutunga spent two seasons as an offensive assistant at Rutgers, working primarily with the running backs. While with the Scarlet Knights, he helped running back Isiah Pacheco to All Big-Ten honorable mention in 2021. In Mutunga's first season, Rutgers averaged a program-best 26.7 points-per-game. He also helped tutor running back Kyle Monangai, who is currently with the Chicago Bears.
Mutunga served a three-year stint (2017-19) as Princeton's running backs coach. He helped the Tigers produce the Ivy League's top rushing offense in the 2018 season (2,955 total yards). Princeton went 8-2 in 2019, undefeated in 2018 and showcased back-to-back top-10 FCS team rushing totals in 2017 and 2018. Mutunga guided Charlie Volker to an Ivy League-best 14 touchdowns on his way to first-team all-conference recognition in 2018.
Prior to Princeton, Mutunga coached running backs at Lehigh for three seasons (2014-16), assisting the Mountain Hawks to the No. 6 ranked offense in the FCS during his final season on staff. He helped Dom Bragalone to first-team All-Patriot League recognition.
The Bel Air, Md. native found his coaching start at Muhlenberg, working with tight ends and running backs as an offensive assistant for two seasons (2012-13).
A standout collegiate running back, Mutunga was a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter at Gettysburg College (2006-09). He totaled 2,804 career rushing yards and 38 touchdowns while earning All-Centennial Conference honors three times.
Mutunga graduated from Gettysburg with a bachelor's degree in business administration and economics in 2011.
He and his wife, Katie, have two sons: Jaxon and Jameson.
