As expected, the highest draft choices and incumbent starters get the bulk of the attention during this time of the year. But what about the progress thus far听of some of the Cowboys'听later听draft听picks, like听Drew Shelton, Devin Moore, LT Overton and Anthony Smith?听鈥�听Kevin Wilson*/St. Louis, MO*
Patrik: That's a mixed bag in that group. Each of the players you've mentioned have potential to make an impact for the Cowboys, but some will need more time than others to do so, it appears. Anthony Smith, for example, has made some impressive plays in training camp, but not consistently enough to disturb the wave being created by Camden Brown. Drew Shelton will require more development going forward to be a viable option on the offensive line, and Devin Moore is physical, but the consistency comment applies to him as well. I think the most impressive, by far, has been LT Overton. He's had a very good camp and his film against the Cardinals shines bright, and I'm of the opinion he could find his way to the field early and fairly often in his rookie season.
Tommy: Of the group of players you named, I think LT Overton is standing out the most. He's gotten some work with the first-team defense, and had a tipped pass that led to an interception in the red zone a few practices ago. Shelton has been working with the second team at right tackle, opposite of where he played in college at Penn State. He's also been getting some guard work too. Devin Moore had some good snaps early in camp, but has been nursing a groin injury and has missed a few recently. Anthony Smith had a nice one-handed grab in the joint practice against the Rams that would've led to an explosive play. All in all, the rookies are somewhat involved, but again I'd say Overton has stood out from the rest.
