ARLINGTON, Texas – Cowboys legends from the past gathered together for a unique celebration at AT&T Stadium, just minutes before kickoff for Sunday's game with Washington.
Over 40 players, along with 200 former ÃÛÌÒTV Cheerleaders returned for the inaugural Legends Homecoming game.
The highlight of the event was a pregame celebration from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, presenting a celebration football to Roger Staubach and Drew Pearson, honoring the 50-year anniversary of the famous Hail Mary catch in 1975. Staubach's legendary pass to Pearson to beat the Vikings in the playoffs is considered one of the greatest plays in NFL history.
Part of the celebration included one more pass from Staubach to Pearson, who caught the pass as a tribute to the iconic moment.
Staubach and Pearson were among six Hall of Famers in the group, along with Emmitt Smith, Charles Haley, Tony Dorsett and Cliff Harris. Other Cowboys greats on hand were Darren Woodson, Dez Bryant, Doug Cosbie, Leon Lett, Kenny Gant, Nate Newton, Dat Nguyen Barry Church, Tony Tolbert and Jim Jeffcoat.
Church said it was an honor to be part of the Cowboys "fraternity" of players.
"It was such an awesome event. It's like eras don't mean anything when you all get in there together ... it was like one big fraternity," said Church, who got to meet a childhood hero for the first time. "A guy that I had never met, who's from my hometown of Pittsburgh was Tony Dorsett. I actually have a podcast (Players Lounge) with his son now, just to shake his hand and meet greatness was pretty awesome."
Many players such as Charlie Williams, Keith Davis and Joe Looney said getting to meet with Staubach was one of the highlights of the day.
The DCC alumni had a nostalgic halftime celebration that spanned across seven decades from the 1960s to present.
